On a hot summer day, nothing is more welcome than a trip on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway; you'll experience a 30-degree difference between the valley floor and the mountaintop. You’ll probably need a sweater even in July!

As you climb aboard this rotating tramcar, the beauty of the mountain aerial views will amaze you.  It’s a real adventure to ascend two and a half miles to a lovely wilderness area at Mount San Jacinto State Park.  And once you’re at the top, the fun really begins with the many activities you can choose from.

Guided nature walks are perfect for learning about the area in the wilderness area.  For a day of fun in the snow, snowshoes, sleds and cross-country skis can be rented. The Mountain Gift Shop has warm apparel to purchase for a spontaneous romp in the snow. And for the really adventurous and well experienced, a weekend of snow camping is thrilling.

If you like serenity and quiet, go hiking or backpacking in the wilderness (permits are required). Primitive campsites are located in four designated campgrounds throughout the Wilderness area.   Day permits may be obtained from the Ranger Station located in Long Valley.

Mountain air usually makes you hungry and you have two dining options at the top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway: Peaks Restaurant, a fine dining experience with a thrilling view of the Coachella Valley and the more casual Pines Café, a cafeteria-style restaurant. Both restaurants are open for lunch and dinner.

Directions:

Traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 exit Highway 111 to Palm Springs, travel 8 miles to the first signal and turn right at Tramway Road.  The Valley Station is located approximately 4 miles up Tramway Road.
